Our comments: The Brit is a cosy and quirky, dog friendly pub with a log fire. They have a vegetarian/vegan menu with the following labelled vegan options.
Light Bites & Starters: Homemade soup of the day with warm bread, fresh mushrooms cooked in coconut oil with caramelised onions and walnuts, served with rocket and vegan parmesan on ciabatta, arancini risotto balls, served with tomato & basil sauce, side order of root vegetables, rustic style skin on hand cut chips, French fries, sweet potato fries, new potatoes or sauté potatoes (prepared in a vegetable only fryer).
Main Courses: Mr Nice Pie vegan pie, served with mash or chips, seasonal veg & gravy, vegan sweet potato, spinach, tomato & chickpea lasagne bake with French fries & salad, homemade smoky sweet potato & black bean chilli, served with jasmine rice, slow cooked homemade mushroom bourguignon with shallots & pearl barley.
Pre-order only (48 hours notice) main courses: Crown Prince squash & cavolo nero pasta with onions, garlic and a touch of fresh chilli & vegan parmesan, pearl barley with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts & truffle oil with parsnip shavings, hearty vegetable chilli goulash made with mushrooms, onions, olives, peppers, courgettes, tomatoes & fresh chillis, served with penne pasta & vegan parmesan.
A vegan nut roast or pies, with trimmings, are available for Sunday lunch but it is best to book these in advance so they can make sure they have enough.
