Our comments: There is a vegetarian & vegan menu with the following vegan options labelled.
Starters: Tomato & fresh basil bruschetta (Italian style grilled bread slices topped with freshly cut tomatoes & basil, drizzled with olive oil & vinegar dressing), creamy garlic mushrooms served with warm bread, homemade Cajun seasoned potato wedges with BBQ dip, homemade potato wedges with garlic hummus dip.
Pub Favourites (served with homemade chips, jacket or new potatoes unless specified otherwise and choose from either seasonal vegetables or salad): Homemade creamy mushroom stroganoff (made with coconut milk & champignon mushrooms, served with a warm baguette topped with homemade hummus), homemade mixed vegetable red Thai curry (a homemade coconut-based Thai curry with mixed vegetables, served with rice, chips or half ‘n’ half), homemade vegetable farmer’s pie (made with lentils, mushrooms, chickpeas, onions, carrots, garlic, celery & tomatoes topped with sliced new potatoes), homemade lentil spaghetti Bolognese (pasta dish made with red lentils, onions, garlic, tomato sauce & Italian seasoning).
Burger: Homemade beetroot burger (made with beetroots, chickpeas, onion & garlic seasoned with basil & pepper), the vegan optional toppings are onion rings, caramelised onions, mushrooms, garlic hummus & lentil Bolognese sauce.
Salad: Warm beetroot & chickpea salad (warm beetroot, chickpeas & new potato chunks served with mixed salad leaves, red onions, tomatoes, cucumber pieces & balsamic dressing).
Baguettes: Hummus & mixed pepper, lentil Bolognese, creamy garlic mushrooms.
Jacket Potato: Choose fillings from creamy garlic mushrooms, homemade garlic hummus and lentil Bolognese.
Desserts: Homemade dark chocolate banana peanut butter pie, served with sorbet, sorbet (choose from mango, blackcurrant, raspberry or lemon).
They serve vegan Sunday dinners consisting of nut roast, a choice of vegetables from the main serving trolley and an individual portion of vegan gravy. There is butter in some of the vegetables but there is plenty of choice and all of the staff are very clued up as to what is suitable.
Let them know if you require your chips to be vegan; they aim to do their best but due to space restrictions they might not be able to guarantee separate fryers during busy times. Dairy free milk is available for teas and coffees. The restaurant has a dog-friendly section. The owner is very knowledgeable, attentive and receptive to feedback, without being intrusive.
