Our comments: Carvery chain restaurant with three labelled vegan main options: Portobello mushroom bullseye tart (a hand crimped suet pastry case, filled with an indulgent mushroom sauce, topped with a whole portobello mushroom), grilled aubergine stack (grilled aubergine & Mediterranean style vegetables combined in a tomato & oregano sauce topped with a vegan white sauce & breadcrumbs) and root vegetable roast (shredded carrots & parsnips, a mix of mushrooms, swede, apricots topped with an oat & cranberry crumb). Ask for freshly steamed vegetables, without glaze. The roast potatoes and veggie gravy are vegan. There is also a suitable dessert: Chocolate & cherry torte (moist, Belgian chocolate cake made with Bramley apple & cherry compote, served with chocolate sauce).

Our comments: The menu includes a labelled vegan burger made from seasoned soya & wheat protein and topped with shredded BBQ soya. It is served in a brioche style bun with tomato, iceberg lettuce & red onion and comes with chips and a lightly dressed salad garnish. There are labelled vegan sides of sweet potato fries, mixed side salad and bowl of chips.

Our comments: The chips, made from Maris Piper/Markie potatoes, are cooked in vegetable oil in their own fryers. They are vegan and gluten free. All other meat and fish items are cooked in separate fryers. The mushy peas and curry sauce are vegan but check on the baked beans with the staff.

Our comments: Cadwaladers is a Welsh chain of coffee and ice cream cafes. Vegans should let their server know of their requirements and they will be happy to assist with any queries. Items on the menu which are suitable for vegans are:
Mango sorbet, raspberry sorbet, lemon sorbet, sorbet sundae with mixed fruit.
Toast (white or brown) served with jam, beans on toast (white or brown), kids jam sandwich (white or brown), ask for these to be served without butter.
Homemade porridge with fruit & maple syrup (ask to be made with soya milk).
Jacket potatoes (plain or with beans) served with a leafy salad (ask to be served without coleslaw).
Soup (flavour changes daily; ask your server if option is suitable).
Soya milk is available for coffees and teas but the hot chocolate is not suitable for vegans. They can replace the ice cream in smoothies with sorbet.
