Comments: The pub caters very well for vegans; if a reservation is made they will produce a specific menu and the food, service and atmosphere are all good. A vegan menu offered here consisted of the main dishes of mushroom ragout with garlic mash potatoes, roasted red pepper stuffed with sweet potato & spring onion with sweet chilli sauce, Quorn curry with saffron rice & naan bread, Quorn burger with salad & chunky chips, veggie sausage pasta with chilli Cajun sauce and vegetable gnocchi. It had side options of chunky chips, roasted vegetables, fresh salad, onion rings, creamed potato and bread & olives. They can also provide suitable starters such as battered courgette with salsa. The staff know which of their wines are vegan. The Bell Inn is dog friendly.
The town of Caerleon is on the River Usk, in the northern outskirts of Newport.
There are usually one or two vegan options such as tomato puff pastry tart (without the cheese) and stuffed pepper. There is also a self serve salad bar and the soup is sometimes suitable. Visitors have not generally been impressed with their attitude to catering for vegans.
