Comments: Anna-Loka is an excellent and very popular totally vegan restaurant. Breakfast options include a cooked option with homemade sausages, smoky rashers and scrambled tofu and pancakes. On the lunch menu there are a whole food bowl, wraps, a Thai curry and burgers. In the evening dishes include a Southern fried chicken style seitan burger with vegan cheese & garlic mayo and a battered tofu with seaweed ‘fish’ burger. Nut and seitan roast dinners are served on Sundays. They also have cakes, desserts and a choice of dairy free milks for hot drinks and shakes. Gluten and alium free options are available.

Comments: Riverside Sourdough make and sell speciality sourdough and real breads. All their breads are guaranteed vegan and made using organic ingredients. The full range consists of San Francisco sourdough, walnut baton, olive baton, chia buckwheat, malted wheat & seeds, spelt, buckwheat, overnight white, caraway rye and coriander rye. Highly recommended both for being a fully vegan venture and for the quality of their bread.

Comments: There are plenty of vegan options at this vegetarian café & takeaway. There is some labelling but the staff can inform you about individual items. Obviously avoid anything containing paneer and they do not use eggs at all. There are curries, samosas, bhajis, kachori, Indian sweets and more. Pooja is cheap and definitely recommended.

Comments: There is a good selection of vegan foods at this independent health food shop including many chilled and frozen options. They also have a vegan range of sandwiches and wraps to takeaway.

Comments: Cafe Sino is a lovely, friendly Tea (and coffee) shop. There have labelled vegan options such as sandwiches, chickpea burger and cakes. They have vegan cheese. They have a good selection of Chinese teas and coconut, oat & soya milk available.

Comments: There is a vegan menu with brunch, tapas, sandwich & wrap, main, side and cake dishes. There are vegan bacon options; butty, BLT, part of the cooked breakfasts and as a burger topping. The mains are two salads, two bowls and a 'Beyond Meat' cheese burger. The cakes include dark chocolate & orange torte and carrot cake. Almond, oat and soya milks are stocked for coffees etc. Vegan alcoholic drinks, including wine are available, ask a staff member. It is dog friendly.

The recommended vegan main is the saag khumb; a spicy dish of spinach & mushrooms sautéed with chillies & garlic. Bear in mind that the onion bhajis, for example are unsuitable because they contain egg, but many of the starters and mains which are not suitable can be veganised. The staff will talk you through the whole menu. The pilau rice contains no dairy and is vegan friendly but the naan breads are not. The food is of a very high standard for the price. Comments: They can make the veggie breakfast suitable for vegans. They usually have a suitable chocolate cake and flapjack. Soya milk is available for coffees etc.

Comments: The menu states that a vegan thali is available on request. The staff can inform you what other dishes are suitable such as vegetable curry, lentil of the day and potato of the day. The starters of Madras idly chat and Punjabi samosas are suitable but the bhajis are not vegan.

Comments: They can provide excellent vegan options such as tofu stir fried pad Thai (stir fried thin rice noodles with carrots, onions, spring onions, mushrooms & beansprouts, served with a piece of lime, chilli flakes & peanuts). The menu states for this and other dishes to indicate with or without egg and other items can be prepared with soya sauce or oyster sauce. Therefore specify you are vegan and do not want egg or oyster sauce in your food. Other options that can be suitable are tofu stir-fry dishes, other noodle dishes and fried rice dishes. The prices are really good.

Comments: They have a specific vegan menu with options such as curry, chilli, a noodle dish, salad, houmous & roasted vegetable wrap and chips. Pizza without cheese is on offer in certain pubs. The breakfast menu (served until 12 noon) includes a cooked breakfast (with Quorn sausages and vegan spread but no beans) and smashed avocado muffin. Soya milk is available for filter coffees and teas and they have a list of all their vegan friendly drinks.

Comments: Inform them that you are vegan and explain what you don't eat. The pizza bases are suitable and nice, so you can have a margherita or vegetariana (roast peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, courgettes, aubergine & tomato) pizza without cheese. The vegetarian soba noodle, udon noodle and cha han dishes can be suitable, if you state you require vegan. Sushi can be made vegan by not putting in animal ingredients. The maki rolls are based on cucumber and avocado and they offer rice paper as well as nori options. As for starters, the edamame are suitable and the vegetable gyoza are vegan but from an allergy perspective, may contain traces of milk.
